Victor Man Found by Cell Phone After Alleged Theft

At about 4PM on Thursday 11/21/13, deputies were dispatched to the K-Mart store in Cobblestone Court Town of Victor for a shoplifter who fled the area on foot. Investigation determined that the suspect was William Dowd. He placed 9 packages of AA batteries, 3- Crest teeth whitening strips, one table runner and one small rug in a hand shopping basket and left the store without paying for the items. The total value of the items was $200.01. Dowd was confronted by the store loss prevention agent at which time he dropped the basket and fled on foot. His cell phone was left behind in the basket which lead to his identification.

Dowd was located in Victor Town Court where he was appearing on a previous charge of Petit Larceny. He was taken into custody and arraigned on the current charge at which time he plead guilty. He was committed to the Ontario Co Jail in lieu of bail and scheduled to appear back in court at a later date for sentencing.

The merchandise was recovered by the store.
