Personal Flotation Devices and Quick Responders Save Lives

A 911 call was received on April 12th. Yates County Sheriff's Deputies arrived on scene shortly after at 989 East Lake road in the town of Barrington. A capsized boat was said to have been in Keuka Lake while some people were in the water yelling for help. Deputy Conover and Trooper Everetts were the initial respondants on scene. They used a conoe to locate the above subjects in the lake. The subjects were leisurely paddling in a small row boat when it capsized and threw them overboard. All three occupants were wearing personal flotation devices and were removed from the water by friends who heard their cries for help. The friends responded with another row boat. Two of the three were taking by the Dundee Ambulance to the S&S Hospital while the other was transported by Wayne Ambulance to Ira Davenport Hospital. All three suffered from cold weather injuries. Penn Yan Fire Department assisted at the scene and Branchport Keuka Park Fire Department was standing by to assist on East Bluff Drive across Keuka Lake.
