Tyre Truck Fire

Seneca County Sheriff's Office reports, on June 16th, 2017 at approximately 9:52 AM, Sheriff's Deputies responded to State Route 414 in the Town of Tyre, for the tractor trailer fire.

When Sheriff's Deputies arrived, the truck cab was fully engulfed in flames. The truck and trailer were blocking northbound traffic on State Route 414 near the NYS Thruway entrance.

Sheriff's Deputies state the truck was driven by Steve Haygood, age 54, of Lake City, South Carolina. Haygood was traveling southbound on State Route 414 when the truck cab began filling with smoke. Haygood was able to stop the truck and escape without injury.

Magee and Junius Fire Departments responded and extinguished the fire. 

Traffic on State Route 414 in the Town of Tyre was backed up for nearly 90 minutes. The truck and trailer sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene .

Upon investigation, Deputies report the cause of the fire was determined to be electrical.
