 Canandaigua, NY - In the Finger Lakes Region we are seeing more and more small herds of goats and flocks of sheep. The growing interest stems from folks looking to take advantage of a niche market or to utilize a marginal land resource. For others, it is the desire to be more self-sufficient; providing the family with meat, milk and fiber.
 If you are interested in raising sheep or goats, or are a producer looking to connect with others, you will find this series of workshops most helpful.
 Thursday, November 29, 2012:
Nancy Glazier, Regional Small Farm Specialist with the NWNY Dairy, Livestock, Field Crops Team will be speaking on the common breeds of sheep and goats and what you need to consider.
tatiana Stanton, Animal Science Department, Cornell University will address production aspects of raising sheep and goats for success. She will be discussing housing and fencing needs, feeding, breeding, birthing, shearing, milking, and more.
 Thursday, December 6, 2012:
Dr. Stephanie Dodd, veterinarian from Eastview Veterinary Clinic, Penn Yan, NY will be covering herd health. She will be presenting parasite and disease management along with practical information on do-it-yourself medical procedures and foot care. A grower panel will be presenting on how they got started, what products they produce, and how they market their products.
 Cost: $25.00 per person for the workshop series.
