ADC-Dance Company Presents “Awakening” Dance Concert Series at the Schweinfurth Art Center on May 4th at 2 & 7pm. ADC will conduct their arts outreach program called Arts Up on May 3rd.

Weekend highlights include:

  • Guest Choreographer Joe Celej from the Elisa Monte Dance Company original work choreographed for ADC “UnderCover” performed as part of the May 4th concert.
  • ADC Outreach program “Arts Up” free family Yoga & Dance series May 3rd from 5-8pm lead by ADC Associate Director Isabelle Wellauer and in collaboration with the Schweinfurth Art Center.

ADC is a contemporary dance company which has proudly called Auburn its home for 11 years. ADC is excited to announce a collaborative and exciting program for the 2013 spring concert season. ADC will perform eight original works which includes choreography by guest artist Joe Celej, Artistic Director Yvonne Hassett, Associate Director Isabelle Wellauer and ADC member/performer Alysse Carris.

ADC was founded by Yvonne Hassett to provide young aspiring dancers a chance to work in a professional dance company environment. By bringing in guest artists and traveling throughout New York State to perform at various charity events, ADC dancers are given an opportunity to grow as an artist and develop the discipline to pursue a career in any field. Yvonne is thrilled to continue the ADC legacy and is known throughout New York State for her artistic approach, creativity, passion and intellectual depth. This year she has expanded the artistic team behind ADC to include new Associate Director Isabelle Wellauer.

The Schweinfurth Art Center has been generous in their collaborative efforts to support the Arts Up program and “Awakening”.  As part of the Schweinfurth’s First Friday event, ADC Associate Director and acclaimed local Yoga instructor and dancer Isabelle Wellauer will be leading the free family Yoga & Dance program. Selected adult participants in the Yoga & Dance program will be performing YogaDance, a community piece within the show. For the dance concert, the Schweinfurth facility offers a unique stage setting which is ideal for an intimate contemporary dance concert.

ADC will be presenting original works and showcasing the diversity of the company’s choreographers and dancers. Audiences can expect contemporary concert dance works which touch on a wide variety of genres and an awakening of their senses. Original pieces include: But’terfly Effect (a collaborative creation from Yvonne & Isabelle), Choices (choreographed by Alysse Carris), and UnderCover (choreographed by Joe Celej).

Guest Choreographer Joe Celej is a New York City based artist holding a BFA in dance performance from SUNY at Buffalo. His concert dance credits include Priscilla Nathan-Murphy, Nina Buisson Contemporary Move, The Houston Metropolitan Dance Company, and is currently in his seventh year with the internationally touring/acclaimed Elisa Monte Dance. He has been a guest teacher/choreographer at a variety of educational institutions including SUNY at Buffalo, Rice University, The High School for Performing and Visual Arts Houston. Joe is a recipient of a 2010 Presidential Scholar Teacher Recognition Award from the US Department of Education.

Joe’s choreography came out of a Master Class Workshop conducted at Absolute Dance. The Master Class was an exploration for his piece UnderCover. This extremely intricate and explosive piece challenges the dancers with a blend of lifts, partnering and individual performance to create a truly inspiration work of art. This experience has enhanced their dancing and will have a lasting effect on their passion for the dance arts.
