The Life of Harriet Tubman: A Spiritual Journey through Music iCal

The Harriet Tubman Boosters Club is pleased to announce that on Saturday, September 21st the
Syracuse Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America (SGMWA), under the direction of Dr.
Joan R. Hillsman, will present a concert of music to honor and celebrate the life of Harriet Tubman.
This concert will take place from 3:00-4:30pm. A special poetry reading by New York City poet Cyd
Charisse Fulton will open the concert. The concert
will feature music composed and directed by Dr. Hillsman, which includes a narrative of Harriet’s life
from slavery in the south to freedom in the north.
Admission is $10 per person in advance, and $12 at the door. $5 for children and students w/ ID.  Tickets are available on the Tubman
Boosters website (, or at the Harriet Tubman Home, the Seward
House Museum, Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Booker T. Washington Center.
Copies of Ms. Fulton’s book of poems about Harriet Tubman, “Feeding off of the North Star,” will be
available for $10, and the author will sign copies during intermission and after the concert.
