Penn Yan, NY - The Master Gardeners of Yates County are hosting their annual Yard N’ Garden Day for anyone who is interested in gardening or wildlife. The workshop will cover common weeds found in lawns and gardens, gardening on difficult sites, and population regeneration and restoration of bald eagles in the Finger Lakes region. Participants will learn how to get rid of and manage common weeds, garden successfully in touch areas like steep slopes, poor soil, and areas with drainage problems, and how the New York State bald eagle population, which was once nearly non-existent, has rebounded and is now growing. Speakers include: Joann Gruttadaurio, former faculty at Cornell University Department of Horticulture, Elizabeth Lamb, Cornell University, NYS Integrated Pest Management Program, and Mike Allen, former DEC wildlife technician and New York's eagle restoration program.
This is a unique opportunity to come together and learn how to tackle some of the common gardening challenges and wildlife developments in this region.
Following the workshop, all attendees will receive several FREE vegetable and flower seed packets. This workshop is open to the public. Fee is $12 per person, which includes one set of handouts and refreshments. To be held on: Saturday, March 31, 2012, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Yates County Auditorium, 417 Liberty Street, Penn Yan. Pre-registration is required.
