Ithaca Seeking Source of Mysterious Sewer System Chemical

Ithaca City officials are seeking the public's help after someone the weekend of November 23rd allegedly dumped a significant volume and/or concentration of unknown cleaning solution, solvent, or other chemical into the public sanitary sewer system for the City of Ithaca, Town of Ithaca, and Town of Dryden.   Dan Ramer is Chief Operator at the Ithaca Wastewater plant.

Ramer says they're not sure how the material entered the sewer system.

When the material reached the wastewater treatment facility it was toxic to the microbes that are a key component of the treatment process.  Ramer says the drinking water supply was NOT effected.  Anyone that has any information that can help, please contact Ed Gottlieb at (607) 273-8381
