New York State farm bureau members donated 8.4 million pounds of food, this year, to the Feeding America NYS Food Banks. The generous donation was made public as the New York Farm Bureau kicked off its annual meeting on Monday.
The food is collected through the "Harvest for All" donation program, a nationwide partnership between the Farm Bureau and the Feeding America Food Banks. And, with a few weeks still remaining before year's end, it's expected that food donations will climb even higher. Since the Harvest for All program began 10 years ago, the generosity of New York farmers routinely ranks at the top of the list among all the states.
According to Sharon Smith, the Executive Director of the New York Food Bank, the 8.4 million pounds of food donated, so far, equates to about 6.9 million wholesome, nutritious meals.
