The Department of Motor Vehicles has designated the first week of December as "Older Driver Safety Awareness Week." It's estimated that by 2020, there will be 40 million licensed drivers age 65 and older in the United States. Recognizing the need for safety for older Americans behind the wheel is not only a good idea, it's kind of necessity. This week's awareness of older drivers is the brainchild of the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee and the DMV. Volunteers of CarFit, a nationwide program to help seniors, will help older drivers complete a 12-point checklist , which includes correct position of the driver's seat, driver's ability to easily reach floor pedals and proper adjustment of mirrors.
