New Yorkers Gearing Up Against Disaster in 2014

New Yorkers unite!

Governor Andrew Cuomo is looking to train 100,000 people in New York in 2014 in a new Citizen Preparedness Corps Training Program.  More than 600 people in Staten Island and 600 in Suffolk County have already participated in the first round training session in order to be ready for disasters and emergencies.

Residents of New York can show up to the two hour training session and receive the tools and resources necessary to "prepare for any type of disaster, respond accordingly and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions".  Cuomo also launched a new website prepare.ny.gov that has more information on training sessions, tips, and ways to volunteer.

Participants in the training sessions receive a free Citizen Preparedness Corps Response Starter Kit. Including a plastic drop cloth, first aid kit, face mask, safety goggles, pocket radio with batteries, flashlight, emergency blanket, duct tape, water, food bars, and work gloves.
