Geneva City School's Masterminds Finish 11th at National Championship Tournament

The Geneva City School's Varsity MasterMinds team took 11th place in the Small Schools National Championship Tournament held in Minneapolis, last weekend. Geneva was one of 50 teams nationwide to compete in the tournament. Only two teams from New York, Geneva and Colton-Pierrepont, in St. Lawrence County, qualified to compete. Geneva City School Latin teacher Victoria Lehman coached the team. One of the tournament moderators said the team's 11th. place finish puts them in the top echelon of small school quizbowl teams in the country. The team won their first five preliminary games to qualify for the playoffs on day one of the tournament and then won multiple playoff games before being eliminated in a close game against Massachusetts Advanced Math and Science Academy, the eventual national runner-up. Congratulations to the Geneva team for its outstanding performance!
