Oral Surgeon Arrested on Charges of Fraudulent Billing

An oral surgeon from Amherst employed in the state's prison system to do dental work on inmates, the Buffalo News reports, was arrested by State Police on Friday accused of charging the state more than $14,000 for work he never performed.

State inspector General, Catherine Scott, says Dr. Timothy O'Keefe committed the fraud over a three year period from 2009 to 2011 and is facing a 41 count indictment.  He will reappear in court on June 11th to answer the charges.

O'Keefe was contracted to provide oral surgery services for 26 state prisons in Western, Central and Northern New York.
