Evening Out at Home Cancelled - Proceeds go to Yates County Disaster Relief

“People are suffering.  They have lost homes, businesses have closed, the lake is a debris field.  It just seems wrong to be celebrating at this time” said Rob Corcoran of the Yates Community Endowment, echoing the sentiment of the entire board.

In an unprecedented move, The Yates Community Endowment has cancelled their fundraising event, “An Evening Out at Home” which was scheduled for May 31, 2014.  Dinners at host homes were to be followed by a dessert reception at Lakeside Country Club.

“We asked, and our sponsors and hosts have really come through!” said board member Katie Peterson.  “They are taking the money they would have used for the event and donating it to the Endowment’s Disaster Relief Efforts.  The BEST news of all is that the Nord Family Foundation will match, dollar for dollar, up to $15,000, any money we raise for this specific effort.  100% of these funds go directly to Yates County’s needs...not one dollar will go towards administrative costs.”

“It is especially rewarding when the focus is on helping people who are working hard to help themselves” said Don Sheldon, a Nord Family Foundation Board Member.

The Yates Community Endowment Board has selected the Keuka Housing Council to be the recipient of the drive.   “The Community has been extremely generous and I am so very grateful to be part of this area”  said Renee Bloom, Executive Director of the Keuka Housing Council. Penn Yan Mayor Leigh MacKerchar has named the Council as the lead organization in Yates County for emergency housing and structure repair.

Board member Frank Strong feels, “We are a Community Endowment....we are here for those affected in the most powerful way we can be.  These matching funds are a huge boost to what we would have been able to do alone.”

If you are interested in making a contribution, you can mail a check payable to Yates Community Endowment Disaster Relief Fund to P.O. Box 311, Penn Yan, N.Y. 14527.
