Penn Yan Woman Advocates for Civil Rights Restoration Act

The New York chapter of Gun Owners of America announced its 2017 legislative agenda for the “Civil Rights Restoration Act” in Albany Tuesday. The legislation will include a six-point agenda to revitalize basic civil rights, including the right to due process, the right to counsel, and the right to privacy.

Penn Yan resident Donna McKay was a guest speaker at the gathering. The 39 year old recently filed suit in federal court in Rochester claiming she was denied legal representation when police confiscated her guns in 2015 after she checked herself into a hospital due to a reaction to prescription cough medicine.

McKay is hopeful the Act will pass so others won't have go through what she did.

Gun Owners of America is a non-profit lobbying organization formed in 1975 to preserve and defend the Second Amendment rights of gun owners.
