The state budget is having an impact on New York's counties. On Tuesday, the Cayuga County legislature will vote on a measure that would put a hiring freeze in place through July 1 so department heads can analyze the impact of the budget.
Mark LaVigne with the NY State Association of Counties said on Friday's Finger Lakes Morning News it's a good idea considering the cuts in state funding for many county services.
Governor Cuomo is also asking counties to look at consolidating services, but LaVigne says Albany needs to act first.
Last week, Auburn Fire Chief Joe Morabito suggested creating one fire company for all of Cayuga County, a move that is currently prohibited by state law.
