AARP Legislative Director Speaks Out on $78 Million

NEW YORK STATE -- Yesterday, a federal judge got advice on how $78 million should be spent to help utility customers in New York State; that money comes from a settlement of an energy-market manipulation case that has been bantered around by lawyers for more than a decade now.

Bill Ferris, the legislative director for AARP in New York, mentioned some of the areas where he would like the money spent.

Ferris says consumers are too often forgotten when industry and government experts dominant who testifies in such cases.

Finally, AARP's legislative director says too many Senior Citizens, and other low-income households, are getting their electricty turned off far too quickly by utility companies.

The federal judge is expected to rule, before the end of the month, how that  $78 million should be allocated.
