Auburn ECSD Superintendent Proud of School District

AUBURN -- Auburn school officials are optimistic today $65.6 million budget will pass today. Auburn school superintendent J.D. Pabis says Auburn voters need to recognize how hard the district staff works, and the improvements that have been made in recent years -- such as with graduation rates.

But district officials are concerned. If Auburn's budget were to be voted down twice, a new state law mandates that there could be no tax increase for the 2012-2013 year. Pabis says many programs would have to be cut with a zero-increase budget, including courses that help families save on college costs.

Pabis is, clearly, proud of the school district he leads.

Polls in Auburn, and throughout Cayuga County, close at 9 p.m. tonight. Pabis has been an administrator in the Auburn district for 10 years, the last five as superintendent; he is retiring at the end of June.
