The Penn Yan boys lacrosse team rallied, but it wasn't enough as the Mustangs fell Saturday in the Class C state championship game to Shoreham-Wading River 10-6. As heard live on WFLR, the Mustangs got behind 5-0 early before staging a late first half rally to make the score 5-2 at halftime.
Rion Davison's third goal of the game brought Penn Yan back within two at 5-3 with 5:14 to go in the 3rd quarter, but S-WR quickly responded and scored two more goals to take a 7-3 lead into the final quarter.

Jordan Owen scored twice over the span of 3 minutes to open the 4th, but S-WR added a goal too and the score was 8-5 with 7:37 to go. Penn Yan would go on to give up two more goals before Ryan Mace scored for the final time on the season and S-WR held on for their third state championship with a 10-6 win. Penn Yan finishes the season with a record of 20-3.
Mustangs goalies Brandon Mace had another great day in the cage, recording 10 saves. Tim Rotanz was in on 7 of the S-WR goals Saturday and was named tournament MVP.
