Auburn's Great Race Celebrating 35th Anniversary

OWASCO -- This is the 35th anniversary of Auburn's Great Race, the team triathlon at Emerson Park that's the second weekend in August each year. Jim Hanley has been one of the main organizers during all of those years, and he's proud of how well-known the event has become. 

Hanley says they've gotten good at putting this event together, but there's always one big factor that can't control.

Hanley says there was one year when the weather was so bad it was dangerous to be out on Owasco Lake.  

At it's peak, about 20 years ago, The Great race had close to 700 teams registered. Today, that figure is ound 520 to 540 teams -- a number that's held fairly steady over the past decade.
