Ithaca Police Officer Shot in Line of Duty

At approximately 11:00 p.m. on October 11, 2012, an Ithaca Police Officer attempted to stop a stolen vehicle in the West Hill area of the City.  The driver fled the vehicle and a short foot chase ensued.  While approaching the suspect, the Officer was shot.  The suspect was apprehended at 4:50 a.m. this morning by the Ithaca SWAT Team and is in custody. 


At the time of this news release Officer Anthony Augustine, a 5 year veteran of the Ithaca Police Department, was in surgery for his injuries.  No further information on his condition is available at this time.


The Ithaca Police Department thanks the Lifenet 78 Medical Helicopter, Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Police, New York State Police Aviation Unit, Cayuga Heights Police, Cornell University Police, Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department, Cortland County Sheriff’s Department, Onondaga Sheriff’s Department Aviation Unit, Elmira SWAT Team, the Ithaca Fire Department, and Bangs Ambulance for their assistance.
