"Antler Alert" Issued For NYS Thruway

Car deer accidents are pretty common on country roads and rural highways this time of the year but have you ever considered  how much more dangerous it might be if you clip a deer on the Thruway.

The speeds !

The higher volume of traffic !

The  New York State Thruway Authority and New York State Police Troop T have put out their annual "antler alert" . Troop T Sgt . Tom Ferritto tells us  drivers have to be vigilant through the fall .

Ferritto tells us  drivers who think horns and high beams will make a deer move off the road may be in for a surprise.

If you do hit a deer get off the road.

The Thruway  Authority says 2011 was pretty bad with more that 22-hundred car-deer crashes.
