Voters in the 24th Congressional district waited weeks for it, and last night it finally happened -- Dan Maffei and Ann Marie Buerkle debated. The two clashed in a televised debate, the first in which Maffei participated.
Congresswoman Buerkle responded to claims made by the Maffei campaign she supported proposed legislation that would redefine rape. Buerkle said she has four daughters and four granddaughters, and wouldn't support anything that weakened rape. Maffei stuck to his guns and repeated his charge, that Buerkle co-sponsored a bill that changed the definition of rape.
Green Party candidate Ursula Rozum also participated. Previously, Rozum and Buerkle had a series of town hall meetings around Cayuga County. The three are running to represent the 24th Congressional district, which includes Cayuga County.
