Hundreds or possibly even thousands of people are expected to show their appreciation for a fallen Steuben County soldier by lining the route that will be used to return his body to Corning on Tuesday.
The body of Army Spc. 22-year old Ryan P. Jayne is expected to arrive at the Elmira-Corning Regional Airport at 11 a.m. Tuesday. From there, his body will be driven by hearse to Carpenter’s Funeral Home in Corning.
The route Jayne’s body will travel is as follows:
From the airport, left onto Sing Sing Road.
Left onto Hibbard Road (Hibbard turns into Maple Street).
Left onto Olcott Road South.
Right onto Main Street.
Right onto State Route 352.
Left onto East Corning Road.
Right onto Conhocton Street.
Left onto Woodview/Tioga Avenue.
Right onto Cedar Street.
Continue on Centerway
Left onto East Pulteney Street.
Arrive at Carpenter’s Funeral Home.
Calling hours for Jayne will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Corning East High School Auditorium. A service will follow at 8 p.m., and at the conclusion of the service, a military ceremony will be held at the school’s stadium.
Jayne, a 2008 Corning East graduate, and two other upstate soldiers were killed by an improvised explosive device Nov. 3 in Paktia province, Afghanistan.
