It took two weeks to get a final answer but by the narrowest of margins the people of Lyons have decided to dissolve Village Government. The final vote which was certified by the Wayne County Board of Elections and sent to Albany today was 619 for and 585 against. That's a 34 vote difference. Andrew DeWolf of the pro-dissolution group One Lyons says they are savoring the moment and that they know there is a lot of hard work ahead.
On election night dissolution forces had a 569 to 524 vote lead with 91 absentee ballots to be counted.
Now the Lyons Village Board must take steps to have a detailed dissolution plan prepared. That plan will outline how village services will transition to the town of Lyons and how the dissolution will affect taxes.
If the final plan is not acceptable to some, they can submit a petition to have a referendum on its implementation.
If there is no petition, the plan will be implemented. If there is a petition, dissolution will depend on the outcome of that second vote.
