In Seneca County Court on November 19, 2012, James A. Urwin, 49 years old, formerly residing on Daniels Street in Seneca Falls, pleaded guilty to rape in the third degree, a class E felony. During his plea, Urwin admitted that on May 27, 2012 he had engaged in sexual intercourse with a minor. The Court indicated that Urwin’s likely sentence will be two years’ state prison with five years’ post-release supervision. Urwin will be sentenced on January 7, 2013.
On a separate matter, Urwin also pleaded guilty to criminal mischief in the third degree. Urwin admitted that on May 29, 2012 he unlawfully caused damage in the amount of $12,000 by pouring gasoline inside a bedroom of another person’s residence located on Daniels Street in Seneca Falls. The latter incident occurred after Urwin barricaded himself in the room and refused police requests to come out. On the criminal mischief conviction, the Court indicated that Urwin’s likely sentence will be a state prison term of 2 to 4 years. Sentencing will occur on January 7, 2013.
Seneca County District Attorney Barry Porsch prosecuted the cases. Assistant Public Defender John Nabinger represented the defendant. Both convictions resulted from an investigation conducted by the Seneca Falls Police Department.
