This was the first year for "Holiday Mail for Heroes" between the Auburn Rotary Club and Cayuga County Red Cross, where letters written by people in county will be sent to men and women currently serving in the military, veterans in VA hospitals and current soldiers recovering in hospitals. Rotary Club's Tim Kelly says they wanted to help the Red Cross out.
Kelly says the coordinator, Christina Carter, also a Red Cross volunteer, got out in the community to get help and raise awareness of the program.
They'll be sending out a lot of Christmas cards this year.
These letters will go to deployed soldiers, vets in VA hospitals, and current soldiers recovering in hospitals.
Today is the deadline to bring signed cards to the Auburn Red Cross at 11 State Street. The cards will be delivered by Christmas.
