Another step forward in the creation of senior housing. The Auburn Industrial Development Authority has approved a 10-year payment in lieu of taxes to Calamar Construction, who can break ground in the project as early as March. It was the last stop on a journey that took months.
Back in July, the board voted against a 20-year pilot program, as people living in the areas where the senior living center would be built -- Catlin and North Lewis Streets, and Standart and Grant Avenues -- expressed concern of the establishment of a three-story apartment building having a bad impact on their neighborhood.

Matt Smith, shown above, was the only board member who voted no.
