All the legal maneuvering and discussions behind closed doors is history. The litigation that forced Cayuga County Legislator Joseph Bennett into silence for nearly a full year been been fully resolved. The Auburn Citizen reports State Supreme Court Justice John Ark signing the settlement, effectively ending the controversy.
Bennett, a Democrat elected in 2011 to serve Auburn in District 10, was unable to vote after Republican legislators filed legal action against Bennett last January. They questioned whether Bennett could serve while working for Cayuga Community College. The Legislature votes on the school's budget.
Bennett will be able to vote again, but must abstain from voting on anything college-related. He'll also be reimbursed $13,000 in legal fees by Cayuga County.
