Last weekend, Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a public health emergency in New York giving pharmacists permission to administer flu vaccinations to more people as officials seek to stem the worst flu outbreak in the state in several years. Even though she can't pinpoint the exact reason as to why the number of flu cases across the state and nation have increased this year, Yates County Director of Public Health Deb Minor offers one reason.
In New York, the governor's office said more than 20-THOUSAND cases of influenza have been reported this season, compared to the 44-HUNDRED reported for the entire 2011-2012 season.
