The fiscal future of Auburn does not look good. The Auburn Citizen reports City Comptroller Lauren Poehlman presented four different scenarios last night at the Auburn City Council meeting. Poehlman's first scenario includes a 2%t tax levy increase, no projected new revenues, and a $3.4 million budget gap for 2013 to 2014. The second also includes a 2% tax levy increase, removing the gas tax cap and adding a hotel occupancy tax, and a $2.8 million dollar budget gap for 2013 to 2014.
The third scenario is a little less grim, with only a $3.6 million dollar budget gap in 2016 to 2017 and nothing next year. Scenario four includes a much higher tax levy increase and removing the gas tax cap.
Mayor Michael Quill says it's too soon in the process to begin proposing any cuts.
