This will be the 3rd year New York Agriculture officials will be keeping an eye out for the presence of the destructive Emerald Ash Borer. Monroe County has been a hot spot but activity has been limited in much of the rest of the Finger Lakes. Russell Welser at the Ontario County Cornell Cooperative Extension office says the beetle leaves tell tale signs of damage.
Infested trees get visitors too.
The Department of Agriculture and Markets is expanding the emerald ash borer quarantine to include 22 additional counties, effective May 1st. The quarantine will run south of the Thruway from Buffalo to Albany.
