Cayuga Legislature Considering New Drug & Gun Law

The Cayuga County Legislature is considering a law proposed by DA Jon Budelmann that would allow for police to take property or profits made in misdemeanor offenses involving drugs and guns. The Auburn Citizen reports current laws allow law enforcement to seize stuff in high-profile cases, but nothing on the lower end of crime. Budelmann says the new law would hurt criminals, and police would use what they pick up to help fund investigations and get new equipment. The Cayuga County Ways and Means Committee have tabled a vote on Budelmann's proposal, allowing legislators more time for discussion and research.
