An Ontario County elementary school teacher and her husband are facing several charges in connection with two separate fires.
Ontario County Sheriff's Deputies say Steven Eagley Jr. and Melissa Eagley of Palmyra are charged as the result of sealed grand jury indictments. The fires occurred at two locations where the couple used to live.
Melissa Eagley is charged with insurance fraud and grand larceny in connection with a fire in May 2010. She's also charged with third degree arson in connection with a fire in October 2011.
Melissa is a tenured elementary special education teacher in the Phelps-Clifton Springs Central School District. The district has relieved her of teaching duties and has placed her on an alternative administrative assignment.
Steven Eagley Jr. faces similar charges in the May 2010 fire, along with forgery and official misconduct charges in an unrelated incident.
He was a former Clifton Springs police officer and allegedly forged a letter to avoid a deployment to Iraq.
