The Geneva City Council last night approved the first reading of a city ordinance which would set up a program to fix sidewalks but don't mix the concrete just yet. The council voted against a second resolution which would pay for the program.
The city officials also heard about about plans for the Geneva YMCA looking into leasing the city-owned building on Exchange Street next to the ice rink. The building was most recently used by the Finger Lakes Boat Museum.
City councilors also were told the Geneva Chamber of Commerce is moving once again. The chamber's office and visitors center had to move so it's lakefront building could be demolished to make way for a new building. They are moving now from the former Sampson Glass building on Lake Street to 1 Franklin Square where they will share space with the Geneva BID until the new lakefront building is built.
The City of Geneva is beefing up its sidewalk inspecton program. Geneva City Manager Matt Horn says they want to find the bad spots that are cracked, uneven or heaved.
The city can hook you up with various funding sources.
