Yates County Man Sentenced in Ontario County Hit and Run Case

After pleading guilty April 15th in Yates County Court 49 year old John Stenzel will serve 1-3 years in state prison and pay a 20 thousand dollar restitution as part of a plea deal for a hit and run accident in June of last year. 

In court, Kevin Royston told Stenzel that he took his life away.  Royston's leg was shattered in four places and had to be partially amputated he now wears a prosthetic but is still unable to return back to work. 


Stenzel, admitted to hitting Royston on Town line Road just west of Rushville and leaving the scene and later tampering with evidence.  According to reports, he told police he thought he hit a deer.  The court also issued an order of protection for the Royston family.
