If at first you don't succeed, try again. The Moravia School District has a second vote today on a budget for the 2013 to 2014 school year, which failed in May. The new proposal includes a tax levy increase of about seven and a half percent, and the cutting of seven staff positions in the district.
There's also a proposed 10 percent cut in buildings budget and library, and nine thousand dollars in cuts that include reducing the print of back to school calendars.
In May the budget, which included a larger tax levy increase, failed to get a majority vote.
If this budget doesn't win approval, the district says a contingency budget with half a million dollars in cuts would be adopted. Voting ends tonight at nine o'clock at the high school.
The South Seneca School District getting another shot today at passing the 2013 to 2014 school year budget. A vote in May was defeated. The proposed budget includes a three point six percent tax levy increase, and a rise in the overall budget from last year by three point five percent.
Voters can cast their ballots in the Middle School cafeteria tonight until eight o'clock.
