Auburn City Manager Proposes Over One Million Dollars in Budget Cuts

During a special meeting of the Auburn City Council Tuesday night, Auburn City Manager Doug Selby proposed more than one million dollars in cuts for the 2013 to 2014 fiscal year. Selby, who presented his proposal, suggested eliminating four police officers and four firefighters, as well as slimming down his own salary by 44 hundred dollars. Other proposals include eliminating Saturday landfill days, and reducing days the landfill is open from five days to four.

Selby also suggested replacing Planning and Economic Development with a Department of Community Services, which includes dropping some positions.

The council will meet again this Thursday at a special start time of five o'clock at City Hall, to give Councilor Matt Smith time to participate before leaving for another engagement.

Councilors will offer their own recommendation for cuts during Thursday's meeting. The current fiscal year ends June 30th.
