Ithaca Cop Shooter to be Sentenced Friday

The sentencing hearing for Jamel Boooker, who shot Ithaca Police Department Officer Anthony Augustine in the line of duty in October of 2012, is scheduled for this afternoon at the Tompkins County Courthouse.

Back in April, a Tompkins County Court jury found Jamel guilty of 7 charges, including aggravated assault of a police officer.  The jury could not come to a unanimous decision on the most serious charge, attempted murder. Aggravated assault of a police officer carries a maximum sentence of up to 30 years in prison.

Booker was charged for shooting Augustine during a police chase involving a stolen car. Augustine was shot in the chest just above his bullet proof vest. The injury was grave and surgeons were able to save his life.
