A Steuben County man was arrested Monday on felony attempted rape. Anthony Keeler of Hornell was charged after he was led to believe he'd be meeting up with a 12 year old girl for sex in the neighboring village of Canisteo.
The Steuben County Sheriff's Office investigation of Keeler began in late April following an incident with a 12 year old Canisteo girl. An officer with the department then assumed the identity of the 12 year old and contacted Keeler. On Monday, the 22 year old texted the investigator with the intent of meeting the girl for sexual contact. The officer dressed to resemble the teen and waited at a park for Keeler to show up. When he did, he was immediately placed into custody.
Keeler was also charged with felony sexual abuse and a misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child for the alleged April incident.
