Senator Charles Schumer joined local Yates County hops farmers on Wednesday afternoon to announce a two pronged plan to help the hops and craft beer industry grow in the county and throughout the Finger Lakes region. Speaking at Climbing Bines Hop Farm in the town of Torrey, New York's senior senator urged the United States Department of Agriculture and the Small Business Administration to take action.
Schumer also two programs included in the Farm Bill would also help the hops industry.
Schumer reiterated passage of the Senate Farm Bill, which passed last month. A House version of the bill failed. There's 111 hops growers in New York. Climbing Bines Hop Farm is located on Route 14 between Geneva and Watkins Glen on the west side of Seneca Lake.
