Petroleum Storage Facility Decision Put on Hold

No action was taken by the Benton Town Zoning Board of Appeals on an application for a special use permit by Hometowne Energy of Rochester to build a petroleum distribution facility on Route 14A in Benton across from Hayes' Auction Barn.  Hometown wants to start with one 30,000 gallon propane tank, one 20,000 gallon heating oil tank, a diesel tank, and a gasoline tank.   Hometown Energy has estimated that 20 trucks will come and go to the site each day.  An estimated 50 residents turned out to the Zoning's board meeting to speak on the proposed facility.  Because of the comment volume and the full board not being present, a special session might be called or the board will wait until its August meeting to make a decision.
