Finger Lakes Community College has been awarded nearly 800-thousand dollars in grants to enhance the General Equivalency Diploma Program or GED. The funding is part of the federal Workforce Investment Act and is awarded by the New York State Education Department's Office of Adult Career and Continuing Education.
The college will receive $155,988 each year from 2013 to 2018, for a total of $779,940. The grant will pay for increased student support and an emphasis on computer literacy.
Classes are offered at the FLCC main campus in Canandaigua and campus centers in Victor, Geneva and Wayne County as well as other sites in Ontario, Wayne and Yates counties. The FLCC GED exam pass rate is 93 percent; the average pass rate in the state is 58 percent.
