A published report in Monday's Buffalo News claims between 2005 and this year, Congressman Tom Reed was tardy paying his property taxes 38 times. The report claims Reed has paid close to 35-HUNDRED dollars in interest and penalties for repeatedly being late on his property taxes owed to Steuben and Chemung counties by a month or two. Congressman Reed addressed the report.
In Washington, Reed serves on the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee. His presumed opponent come November 2014 is current Tompkins County Legislature Chairperson Martha Robertson. He said come Election time, his property taxes shouldn't be a campaign issue.
Reed added he has been involved in many investment properties, sometimes on his own and sometimes with partners. The former mayor of Corning said he has probably made at least 500 property tax payments since 2005.
