Two Injured in Explosion Inside Ithaca Wegmans

Two people suffered minor injuries after being involved in a small explosion inside of the Ithaca Wegmans late Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters and ambulance personnel responded to the South Meadow Street store shortly before 6 p.m. after an explosion occurred inside of a can recycling machine the two victims were operating. The unidentified victims were taken to the hospital for injuries to their upper torso area and hands.

The store did not close but customers were diverted away from the area. A criminal investigation into the cause of the explosion is continuing but as of Wednesday night  there was no indication a chemical or biological agent was used.
