High Court will Hear Dryden Fracking Ban Case

New York's highest court will decide whether local communities have the power to ban hydrofracking. The state Court of Appeals says it will hear cases involving fracking bans in Dryden and the Otsego County town of Middlefield. Utilities and landowners who want to sell them drilling rights say only the DEC has the right to ban fracking. Both towns have had their bans upheld twice, including by the state Supreme Court. A statewide fracking moratorium has been in place for five years.
