Russ Welser at the Ontario County Cornell Cooperative Extension Office got word to us over the weekend that State and Federal Ag officials confirmed the presence of Emerald Ash Borers in a trap in the Town of Manchester this summer. Emerald Ash Borer is a small invasive Asian green beetle that infests , damages and kills all species of ash trees.
Some 25 percent of all trees in the county are Ash. Welser says a trees survival chances depends on the size of the borer population.
There is one pesticide that seems to work in killing the insects . It's called "imidacloprid" which is applied to base of the tree . The work has to be done by a certified pesticide applicator.
