Schuyler Sheriff Addresses New Boating Safety Laws

After a rash of fatal accidents on New York's waterways this summer, Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed a bill into law that will require all motor-boaters  to complete an eight-hour boat safety course and get a certificate to operate on New York waterways.  We asked Schuyler County Sheriff Bill Yessman if this new law would have a great impact on the county and his department.

Yessman says a recent incident on Seneca Lake shows how important boater safey courses are for new and experienced drivers.

The legislation will be phased in over several years.  First-time violators could get a fine of $100 to $250.
