Waterloo - John Stahlnecker, 85, passed away peacefully Sunday evening (August 11, 2013) at his home, with his family by his side. In keeping with John's wishes there will be no public calling hours or service.
John's family requests memorial contributions be directed to Beverly Animal Shelter, 50 East River Road, Waterloo, New York 13165.
John was born on February 12, 1928 in Waterloo, New York, the son of the late Melvin K. and Irene Rusk-Stahlnecker. He was a graduate of Waterloo High School. He served in the U.S. Navy and earned the rank of Seaman 1st Class. John was a part time Waterloo Police Officer. John retired in 1987 from the American Can in Geneva as a Customer Service Rep. He was a member of the following: Fayette Hunting Club, Waterloo Sportsman's Club, North American Hunting Club (Life Member), National Rifle Association, Seneca Lake Duck Hunters Club, Waterloo Fire Department (Life Member) and American Legion Post 435.
John is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 66 years, Audrey R. (Buck) Stahlnecker of Waterloo; daughters, Karen Youngs of North Rose and Cheryl (Scott) Stackus of Seneca Falls; grandchildren, Kelly (Carl) Frazer, Penelope Youngs, Timothy (Tammy) Stackus and Daniel (Holly) Stackus; great grandchildren, Keri and Lindsey Frazer, Morgan and Parker Ball; grand dog, Yellow Lab, Gunner Stackus; his Aunt Ala Dean Zello of Geneva; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his sisters, Lucille (Earl) Updyke and Mary (Floyd) Bush; his brother, Melvin K. Stahlnecker, Jr.
