Peter Sarantis CANANDAIGUA - Peter Sarantis, Loving husband, father and grandfather, passed peacefully on Aug. 19, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Matina; daughter, Chrissie (Eric) Frarey; granddaughters, Paige and Grace; brothers, James (Helen) of East Rochester and George (Polly) of Niata, Lakonias Greece; cousin, Catherine Vangellow of Penfield; and many nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Chrisafia; and sisters, Katerina and Maria. Peter was born in Niata, Lakonias Greece. He immigrated to the United States in 1940. He joined the U.S. Army, where he served as an infantryman. Peter worked in many of his family's businesses, from restaurants to a Minute Man gas station with his brother James in the Rochester and Finger Lakes area. He retired from the maintenance department at the VA Medical Center in Canandaigua. Peter was a hard working, honest man who lived his life caring and concerned for others. At the time of his passing, he was enjoying his 50th year of marriage with his loving and devoted wife Matina. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home Inc., 47 N. Main St., Canandaigua. His funeral service will be celebrated immediately following visitation at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be held privately in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua.
